Just two moms letting off some steam

“After a surveillance video in 2009 documented Virginia school bus driver Alice Davis Holland and special education aide Mary Alice Evans hitting, kicking, and choking Timothy Kilpatrick, a severely autistic, Bedford County student, the pair were convicted of criminal charges earlier this week, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported. The shocking video shows Holland and Evans hitting the frightened student with a fly swatter, kicking and even choking him. Unable to defend himself because of the seat restraints, the boy appears to be crying as he swings his arms and legs to block the blows.”

This news story and video is incredibly disturbing. It brought us to tears.

When a child is put on a school bus, we expect a safe ride to school, not a savage attack by the bus driver and school bus aide. We cannot comprehend how a defenseless twelve year old boy (strapped into his seat) deserved the beating he received at the hands of these monsters. Thank goodness for the surveillance video.

Special needs children are easy targets for abuse, especially if they don’t have a voice. Without the video, his parents may never have known what Timothy was enduring.
